General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

On 25th May 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation 2016 (“GDPR”) will automatically apply in all EU Member States, including the UK, replacing the current Data Protection Act. The GDPR introduces some significant changes to the way in which businesses and organisations must handle personal data. Evaluating the impact of the GDPR on your organisation, implementing the necessary changes to practices, processes and, if necessary, IT systems, and training your staff, will take time. Once in force the GDPR will have an immediate impact and certain breaches could result in fines of up to €20 million or 4% of global annual turnover.
