About The Course
There are difficulties for employers in exercising the same health and safety controls over employees while they are driving as they can in a typical workplace. Driver Safety training is one of the methods of addressing this challenge.
Aims of the course
The aim is to reinforce safe driving behaviour and identify and influence any poor driving habits that employees may have developed.
Who is it for?
The Driver Awareness Course is for employers and employees involved in the undertaking of work-related driving.
Course content
1. INTRODUCTION
How does driving affect me? Organisation road risk policy, consequences, duties and responsibilities, enforcement agencies and government departments.
2. PLANNING YOUR JOURNEY
Overview, upper limb problems, avoiding the need to drive, plan the journey, plan a safe route, during the drive, onset of fatigue, stopping.
3. VEHICLE CHECKS
Fuel, oil levels, water levels, electrics, rubber, other checks.
4. APPROACH TO SAFE DRIVING
Preventing accidents, concentration, observation and anticipation, attitude, space, time.
5. PRACTICAL EXAMPLES
Putting COAST into action in the simulator covering topics such as speed, motorways, adverse weather, parking, personal safety, mobile devices, breakdowns, other road users and accidents.
6. ASSESSMENT
A short assessment comprising of a series of questions to test your knowledge and understanding of the course.
