Hazardous substances can threaten the short and long term health of those who come into contact with them. This course is designed to raise awareness of the key points in the safe handling and use of hazardous substances, and to protect you and those around you.
Aims of the course
To educate employers and employees of risks associated with the presence and use of hazardous substances at work and the actions that are necessary to control the risks.
Who is it for?
The course is aimed at any employer, self-employed person or employee whose work may involve contact with substances, products or chemicals that may be harmful to health.

2. DEFINING THE PROBLEM
Introduction to a hazardous substance, routes of contact, how you can be harmed.
3. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Identification and inventory, risk assessments,hazardous substance control, information, instruction and training, employee responsibilities.
Information from the risk assessment, control of hazardous substances, biological controls, control equipment and management, reporting any problems with control measures.
5. PERSONAL PROTECTION
Introduction and definitions, care of PPE and personal responsibilities, respiratory protective equipment (RPE), eye and face protection, chemical and bio-hazard protective gloves, skin care, coveralls and foot protection.
A short assessment comprising of a series of questions to test your knowledge and understanding of the course.
